GENERAL APPEARANCE
Small, active and alert, well balanced appearance, the outline should be slightly longer than height at withers
CHARACTERISTIC
Happy and self-confident, very intelligent
TEMPERAMENT
Dog with nice character, but with typical oriental independence, who is quick-witted and aloof with strangers.
HEAD AND SCULL
Head small in proportion to body and proudly carried. Masculine in dogs, but free from coarseness.
Skull slightly domed, moderate width and length. Stop slight, but defined.
EYES
Dark brown colour, oval in shape, bright and expressive, of medium size set fairly well apart but forward looking, giving an apelike expression. Eye rims black.
EARS
Medium size, pendant, well feathered in the adult and set fairly high. They may have a slight lift from the skull, but should not fly. Large, heavy, low set ears are not typical.
MUZZLE
Medium long, blunt muzzle with cushioning, but free from wrinkle. The chin should show some depth and width. Black nose is preferred. Mouth ideally slightly undershot, the upper incisors fitting neatly inside and touching the lower incisors. Teeth should be evenly placed and the lower jaw wide between the canine tusks. Full dentition desired. A level mouth is permissible, providing there is sufficient width and depth of chin to preserve the blunt appearance of the muzzle. Teeth must not show when mouth is closed. Neck moderately short, strong and well set on with lion’s mane which is well-marked on males rather than females.
BODY
Slightly longer from the point of shoulder to root of tail than the height at withers. Level back, well ribbed with good depth.
forequarters
the bones of the forelegs slightly bowed but firm at shoulder. Shoulder well placed.
HINDQUARTERS
Well made and strong. Straight when viewed from behind.
FEET
Hare-footed, small and neat, with hair between fingers, that often overgrow to the front. White markings allowed.
TAIL
Set high, richly plumed and carried in a merry curl over the back when moving. Should not be penalized for dropping tail when standing.
SIZE AND WEIGHT
Weight 4.1 – 6.8 kg, size around 25.4 cm
GAIT
Quick moving, straight, free, positive
COAT
Double coat, silky in texture, smooth in face and front of legs, of moderate length on body, but lying rather flat. Ears and back of forelegs nicely feathered, tail and buttocks well furnished with longer hair. Females have less rich coat than males.

All colours and mixtures of colours allowed
FAULTS
Bulging eyes, wide and flat muzzle, very domed or flat wide skull, without stop, pointed, weak or wrinkled muzzle, scissor bite, long muzzle without stop, very bowed or loose front, cat feet, rough type, light eyes, liver or putty-coloured nose pigmentation, nervousness, shortness of breath, shameful expression, protruding tongue.
